cleaning & studio upkeep
Follow clean-up procedures posted near the sinks
No clay down the sinks. Use the in-sink buckets for washing tools, splash trays, etc. Please get all the clay off your hands in the sink buckets before using the kitchen/bathroom sink
Mop the area around your wheel when you’re finished. Staff will set out a fresh mop bucket in the main studio space daily
Wipe down all wedging tables, plaster boards, and surfaces after use
clay & glazes
Level 1 students: please use the communal class clay underneath the plaster board near the gallery. Level 2 students will be informed where to store your clay bag
Studio clay: 25 lb bags of clay are available for purchase through the studio (multiple clay bodies available for sale). Please scan the associated QR code on the front porch to complete payment. Fresh bags are $30 each, reclaim bags are $25 each
External clay bodies are welcome but must be mid-range. External glazes are welcome but must be cone 5 (not cone 05). Feel free to to show us the clay body/glaze you’d like to use and we’ll verify if it’s suited for our firing programs
firings
We bisque fire to cone 05 and glaze fire to cone 5 (cone 6 available occasionally)
All members can fire up to 25 lb of work per month
We typically fire both our bisque and glaze kiln weekly. The bisque kiln is loaded based on dryness of work. Please understand that your pieces may miss a firing if they are too wet, or there is more than a full load of work on the shelf
Very large pieces can be accommodated as long at they fit in our kilns, but there may be a longer turnaround. Please let us know if you plan to fire a very large piece so that we can coordinate with you
Work will be returned to your shelf (members) or class box (students). Please periodically check the unclaimed bisque and glaze shelves for work
open studio
You’re welcome to use the communal tools throughout the studio, but please return them!
If using studio bats, be mindful of the quantity you’re using, and avoid using them to dry out work for more than a few days on your shelf. If you plan to throw with lots of bats at once and use them for an extended period of time, it’d be best to purchase some of your own
Communal shelf space is available throughout the studio for overflow work. Please label anything left on communal shelves with your name and the date
parking
Parking behind the studio is reserved for staff and patrons with accessibility needs. All other patrons should park on the nearby neighborhood streets
