Handbuilding and Surface Design (Summer—6 Weeks) June 2nd - July 7th
Mondays: June 2nd - July 7th, 10am - 12:30pm
This course will focus on creating unique ceramic pieces using a variety of tools and techniques.
Each week, your instructor will introduce a new method while encouraging students to follow their creative instincts and develop their skills. Students will have opportunities to experiment with handbuilding techniques, such as slab-building, coiling, and using molds. They will also explore decorative methods, including use of slips, underglazes, sgraffito, inlay/mishima, newsprint transfers, and resist techniques.
Your instructor will offer additional guidance and demonstrations as requested—this is a great opportunity to complete that special project you’ve had in mind! The course will primarily be focused on handbuilding, however students are free to use the wheels if they have prior experience.
No prior experience with clay is necessary. Course fee includes all clay, glazes, and firings. Students are permitted one day of open studio time per week.
