Beginner Wheel Throwing (Fall—6 Weeks)

This class is for those who would like to learn or reacquaint themselves with the fundamentals of wheel throwing techniques. No prior experience is necessary. Demonstrations are given at the beginning of each class, and instruction is catered to what people in the group wish to learn and create. But, in general, students will learn how to:

  • center clay

  • throw various functional forms such as cups, bowls, and vases

  • trim leather-hard pots

  • pull and attach handles

  • apply slips, underglazes, and glazes for different surface decoration effects

Monday has up to 14 students per class, with other days capped at 8. Larger classes will have both an instructor and an assistant. Clay, glazes, and kiln firings are included, but students should have their own basic set of pottery tools. At no additional cost, students can also book one day of open studio per week, during which they can work independently.
